Cool Textron Powerwise Charger

I am a new cart owner, a rebuilt 2006 model EZ GO TXT (non PDS). It came with a 2004 Textron Powerwise Charger. I presume that you cannot "overcharge" the batteries with this charger since it shuts off automatically. But once it shuts off and if the plug is removed & reinstalled right away, the charger turns back on, the ampmeter goes to 20amps and it stays on for awhile. I thought that the charger automatically turns off when the batteries are fully charged and doesn't turn on if the batteries are fully charged. Is this normal?

Yes, it is normal for it to react that way.

Your charger is operating correctly. All automated chargers power on when first hooked to the cart, It should be going up to the 18 to 20 amp range and will fall down to the 4 or 5 amp range pretty quickly, it will cut itself off before over-charging the batteries.

I guess the best or simplest way to put it is the charger is checking the batteries to see if they are charged, it doesn't know if it has been plugged into charged or dead batteries until it checks them.

Only if you continue to do it that way. If you use the cart for 15 minutes of pedal time it is OK to charge the pack. Overnight charging is warranted with daily use.

Cool Re: Textron Powerwise Charger

Thanks for all the info. I won't be using the cart until Jan. when I return to FL for the winter. Meanwhile a neighbor is charging it every 3-4 weeks while the cart sits idle.

Is your charger plugged in? Is the circuit breaker on? They'll do that with no power AC. (click)
