General Transmission Ratios
I am looking into possible gearing options for an electric cart. From what I have seen typically the stock transmissions are approx 12:1 ratio. I have seen some 8:1 and 10:1 but I'm curious as to what else may be out there and what some of you have used.
The 8 seems to be pushing it, especially for stock golf controls so I doubt it would be ideal to go lower than that. Have any of you went the other direction with this; any stories about good or bad experiences with this? Something like an 18:1 or 24:1. |

Re: General Transmission Ratios
Ezgo put 15:1 in the workhorse, nice pulling power over the 12:1

Re: General Transmission Ratios
I have an AC motor that's good for up to 8k rpm easily, but the manufacturer told me it could do 9~10k but controller is hard-coded at an 8k limit. I am looking at an application where speed isn't a priority so I would like to utilize the extra RPM if I can. Theoretically Even a 20:1 should still maintain about 20mph. At 48V if the torque improvement on the workhorse was as good as you say with such a small increase I can only imagine what a 20 would do.
