Default POP! burn smell, no move, resistor Hot!

2002 DS 48v

I have been having a problem with the cart spinning the wheels from the start.
Very little speed control, jerking movements. It has never had reverse, bought it that way.

Yesterday I was trying to drive it a little to see if the problem might resolve itself...it didn't. Suddenly I heard a loud pop!..smelled a hot burning smell, and the cart stopped moving. I turned off the key. A while later I found that the resistor on the solenoid was very very hot...ouch, with the key in the OFF position.

I disconnected the batteries and hope you can give me some ideas. This Old Club Car DS 48v is my first cart.

The batteries are fully charged and very strong.

GolfCartGuy told you a while back to check for a stuck brush in the motor. Did you do that?

Before i go to that major effort I, would like to know why a stuck brush would cause the issues I have described.????

I have a 2010 LSV that did the same thing. Pop then a burnt smell. It was hard to push back home! What is the most likely fix?

Looks like O.P. never came back. You should probably start a new thread giving details of your cart and the problem you have.

Thanks. Not really concerned with his problems, but could use some help with mine, and it sounded similar.

If your resistor on the solenoid is hot/burned it means that you probably fried your controller. I had the same thing happen to mine. Replace the co troller and resistor and you should be good to go.

Wait a minute. It does not mean the controller is probably fried and needs replacing. Start a thread and figure this out.

It could be bad but I would not replace it first thing.
