What you want to do will be fine BUT you'll have to remember to operate the switch to turn the reducer on or off.

If you wire in a relay instead of the switch then your normal key that operates the cart will turn on the relay which in turn acts like the switch for the reducer. That way you don't have to remember anything else, just turn the key on to operate the cart and the reducer will be on then turn the cart off with the key and the reducer will turn off.

To wire up the reducer, connect a wire from the "cold" side of the key (the side that only has power when the key is on) to terminal 86 on the relay. Connect terminal 85 on the relay to a negative point on the loom (just check around with your voltmeter to find an "earth" point on the loom (it will probably have black wires connected to it).

Then, using a 15A wire, connect terminal 30 on the relay to the battery pack +ve through a 15A fuse located close to the battery terminal. Connect the positive wire from the reducer to terminal 87 on the relay. Connect the negative wire from the reducer to B- on the controller (I can't remember what cart you have but the Precedent has a black cable with a yellow bullet connector behind the batteries).

That's it. Good luck with either the relay or the switch.
