91 DS with solid state advise
I just finished putting in the C42 solid state upgrade kit with 4 awg wires. I honestly do not see a difference from the old coil set up. I am using the stock motor and current 36 volt battery set up which I plan to upgrade as time/money allows. Any thoughts from everything I have read everyone said what a huge difference it made.

No big difference in performance unless you increase the operating voltage or add the admiral A1 motor. Huge difference if you increase voltage and add the aftermarket motor.

Re: 91 DS with solid state advise
On a series motor, Voltage = speed
Upgrading the drive system will give better efficiency and more linear/smoother throttle control, but you still have the same speed if the voltage (36v) and motor are still the same. The solid state upgrade is necessary first step to better performance, but by itself doesn’t mean it will be any faster since the motor and battery voltage is what determines power in a series setup. Upgrade batteries next. The stock motor will handle 48v and you’ll get a good increase in speed and power from the higher voltage. If you do motor first you won’t notice a huge difference running the upgraded motor on 36v. |
