Default First cart paintjob...need info on flex additives!

Hello! Was recently approached to paint my first cart body. Not new to painting, but I am new to the substrate (plastic...and very flexible at that!). I've read the sticky thread on proper prep, which was very helpful (thanks master66) but still have a few questions, mostly about flex agents or additives. What type or brand do most of you recommend? I'll be using an automotive urethane base/clear system if that matters (kustomshop). Second, at which stage(s) does the flex agent get added? More specifically, are you adding it to the primer, base, and clear? I assume the flex agents have recommended mix ratios, but any inside how-to tips & tricks would be greatly appreciated. Great forum, can definitely see the appeal to these little guys! Who knows, might be painting my own cart pretty soon! Thanks again.

Flex addatives are not needed with the base clear systems to paint a plastic cart.

Good to know. I've read many conflicting point of views...so figured I'd ask the master (no pun intended). The body is off the cart (if that makes a difference) and seems very flexible to me. Was worried that it could cause an issue with the clear coat getting cracked, but it sounds like you've had success without adding any flex agents. I'll proceed with your recommended prep process and go from there. Thanks for the info. BTW, what color is your '56? Looks incredible!

One more question (ok thats probably not true:) What would you recommend for doing some light filling of scuffs & dings on the body? Any fillers or glazing putty's you prefer that have better adhesion & flex for this type of substrate?

Hey master...here's another question I should ask. How much material do you suggest I need to cover a cart? Doing a white base coat, nothing crazy. Then clear. Got most of the prep done and getting ready to skim some dings and primer. Thanks again for all your help! -G

You can get by with a quart of color and a quart of clear just fine.
