Thanks! I really enjoy doing stuff like this. Hopefully it will help some one along the way.

Joe insists that I post the pic of me working to prove that I actually did something and it wasn't all up to him

Here is the moment we've all been waiting for.........

I wanted to run a set of tests to determine the maximum amps that the motor would pull with the 12.44:1 gears. I didn't think to do that when I had done the prior testing. I did those runs first this afternoon and then I changed the rear end to the 8:1 rear end and started all over again.

12:44 gear max amps: 455

Here are the numbers from the 8:1 tests with the D&D motor.

Throttle up: 3
Throttle down: 3

Top Speed: 36.9

300' Time: 10.97
300' Speed: 28.81

Max. amps: 584

I changed the throttle setting to...

Throttle up: 6
Throttle down: 12

With these results...

300' Time: 10.51
300' Speed: 29.30

Ending motor temp: 117 degrees

For comparison sake I'll repost the 12:44 numbers from the same tests:

Top Speed: 31.3

300' Time: 11.05
300' Speed: 26.01

Ending motor temp: 111 degrees

While I had obviously hoped for more top speed...and there may yet be a better top speed number because I did not charge the batteries while I had everything unhooked changing the rear end and I had run the cart pretty hard before doing the 12.44 amp testing...I am well pleased with the results. I'm especially pleased that the cart is faster and quicker in the 300' tests. I can actually hear and feel it trying to chatter the tires on take off. Makes me kinda giggle. LOL... It feels stronger all the way around than with the 12:44 gears. Going up the slight incline on the next street over from me, the cart ran 26.4 mph max with the 12:44 where it runs a consistent 30.4 with th 8:1's. I honestly don't understand that but that is how it is. The only thing that I can figure is that the D&D motor is pulling enough extra amps with the higher gear to offset the difference in the final drive.

I'm charging the batteries now and I'm going to go back in a bit and re-test with the batteries at full charge.

Opinions gentlemen?

Little better charge on the batteries.....

Top Speed: 37.1

300' Time: 10.49
300' Speed: 29.8

Max amps: 584

Speed calculator says that the motor is turning just over 5000 rpms @ 37. That's much better than the 6500 @ 31 that it was turning before.

It's actually still gaining speed when I have to let off for the stop sign. I need a longer street.

I personally am pretty impressed that the cart will run nearly 30 mph in 300'.

The longest I have in my neighborhood is just about 1/4 mile. I'll have to haul it down the way a bit where there is a new housing addition being built. I scoped out a straight street there that is nearly 1/2 mile. Need to take the windshield off to just for grins. I am also very pleased that it feels very stable at 37 mph!
