ds conversion 4(12) to 6(8)
Just getting in to the whole golf cart seen. Recently bought a 2007 cc ds that has 4 12 volt batteries. Need to buy new batteries soon. After reading this forum it looks like i would benefit by going to 6 8 volt batteries. I've searched the forums and there is alot of info on changing the precedent, but no info on the ds. Any info would be helpful. thanks

Having never seen a DS ( stock with 12 volt batterys ) it may only require 8 volt batterys in existing trays but you need to contact TAHOEDAWGZ71 as I'm sure he has changed some out. Please have patience as he is very busy person and does help ASP only between family and after work?

Check this old thread out... I think I explained it pretty thoroughly... If you've got any questions just ask

OM we have two ds models o6 and o7 with the 4-12 setup, and get excellent service out of this setup. Personally I have no intention of changing over to 6-8 volts.

what kind of life do you get out of the batteries? what kind of distance can you travel in between charges? I'm going to be using the cart mostly in a hunting application and would like to get the most distance per charge. thanks

I've got 4 12 Volts in my Precedent. It's primary purpose is for hunting. It's never left me stranded. However, I don't drive great distances... How far are you planning on going between charges?

Re: ds conversion 4(12) to 6(8)
FYI... Converting a Precedent costs about $350.00.... Converting a DS only costs about $20.00. All you need is 4 battery racks, 4 J-Bolts and 2 Hold Downs.

Re: ds conversion 4(12) to 6(8)
Oh... well you drive yours far more than I drive mine... It's hard to say whether the 12 volts will have enough power in reserve to work out for you or not. It's all based on terrain. The 6 8 volt setup has approximately 25% more run time than the 12s do... A set of 12s will discharge about 90 minutes on a Club Car discharge machine before they drop out, a set of 8s will run about 120 minutes on the same machine. Both sets being brand new. 12s hold less water per cell so you really have to stay on top of the watering process. Once the plates get dry you can pretty much consider them done. If you need batteries, a conversion is a must in my opinion.. especially in a DS car since it's so cheap.
