Default New coil

My ezgo txt is a 2004 model, unfortunately the coil seems to have seen its last working trip.
What I would like to know is will a pre 2004 model coil work on my model?
The price difference plus postage and import duties is enormous

Pretty sure your 2004 model will have an MCI engine. You can easily tell by the exhaust manifold if the manifold is cast into the head, it is MCI....pre MCI had a bolt on cast iron head. The MCI coil produces a hotter spark, I don't believe the older style coil will work properly in the MCI engine. What makes you think the coil has died? Look in the tech section of the forum for the manual...you can test resistance across both primary and secondary sides of the coil to verify if it is good or not. Failure to spark often is caused by other issues.

Welcome to this side of the nut house, before you replace anything remove any and all of the black ground wires over by the starter solenoid and clean them very good.
For some reason the grounds like to corrode there and cause a loss of spark

No , it will not work. The coil was part of the newer updates on these MCI engine.

Testing the Ignition Coil
Set the meter to the ohms scale, measure the resistance
between both primary wire terminals and between
the secondary wires (Ref Fig. 3 on page M-5). A normal
reading would be: Primary (+ and -): 1.87 - 2.53 W and
Secondary (A and B): 10.8 - 14.6KΩ. If readings
obtained are out of the above ranges, replace ignition coil
