Default 1987 EzGo gas marathon gx444 problem

I have this 1987 ezgo gas marathon gx444 2 cycle golf cart that will run but its like it wont pick up enough speed/power to engage the clutch...i got it about three weeks ago and when I first got it everything seemed to be running fine til one day took it out on the golf course, made it two holes and then nothing. so replaced the battery and the spark plug and then i took it out for a spin and it ran for about a block. then the motor would just run when I pushed on the accelerater. I'm new to the golf cart thing so any help on what the problem is would be awesome! Thank you

I'm having a similar problem with my 87 EZGO. Runs ok sometimes and sometimes it idles fine but when I press the accelerator the engine doesn't rev up and no movement. Have you found your problem? I'm new to carts too.

TrooperII,

Your cart isn't really running. The starter is turning it over to make it look like it is running.

Time to check for fuel, and spark. Most common issues are a ripped diaphragm in the fuel pump, dirty carburetor, or leaking crankshaft seals.

Spark issues would be broken, or dirty electrical connections, or a bad coil. There are other possibilities that we won't get into yet.
