Default steering shaft u joints?

I am in need of a new u joint for the intermediate steering shaft on my 2002 ezgo workhorse. Has anybody found replacement joints that will work in these shafts or do you have to buy the whole new assembly?? I can't imagine a steering shaft that you can't replace a u joint in. If any of you have found a solution let me know where you found them. I have checked locally several places but nobody has a u joint that small. If i can't find one soon I am going to have a shaft made at the local machine shop so i never have to go through this again.

Thumbs up Re: steering shaft u joints?

ordered a steering knuckle for a rxv off ebay for $18. the u joint is the same so i split the knuckle, stole the u joint for my steering shaft and then put a light tack weld on each one of the caps once i had it installed in my shaft. These were kind of crimped or peened in from the factory since they build them as a throwaway unit, dumb, anyhow without tacking it i am almost sure it would work itself out since it isn't a real tight press fit like most u joints are. It is back in the cart and we ran it a fair amount sunday with no issues.

So this was the shaft from the steering column to the rack? RXV shaft is different length?

It is also a different diameter, but none of that mattered since, like i said, i only stole the u joint i needed and threw the rest of the knuckle in the trash.

I was just passing the info on since ego's only solution is to sell you a complete new shaft for the tune of $204

I have exact same situation only little more complicated in my cart is a Drive electric and the ezgo replacement part has slightly larger diameter. Your solution is same in all I need is u joint and cant find. Any idea? I searched ebay, but dont understand which part you found to fit?
