Default welding cable question

putting together a set of new cables for my cart and was wondering if #2 is the same as 2 gauge ? Thanks

2 AWG is what you want. That's generally called 2 gauge.

2/0 is HUGE. I don't know what #2 is.

2 Gauge is roughly .42" OD
2/0 is roughly .60" OD

2 Gauge is what your wanting..

If your going to make these.....I would suggest crimp and solder. Just crimp is fine.....but solder really helps with the current transfer.

Then buy shrink tubing as heating the lug enough to get the solder to flow melts some of the insulation.

If you solder connections: Make sure to use rosin core solder. DO NOT use acid core solder. Rosin core solder is for electronics and acid core solder is for plumbing. The acid in acid core solder will actually eat and degrade the connections over time. The current flow thru the connection causes a chemical reaction.
