Starter belt breaks after a few months
I have a '95 DS with an FE290 engine that 'eats' starter belts. I have gone through 4 in the past year (as well as one drive belt) on a cart that maybe runs just a few hours per week. Location is south Florida, so heat may be a factor. It is the correct OEM belt according to the parts manual. I have checked both pulleys for any nicks or burrs (they both seem fine) and checked the alignment between the main pulley and the starter pulley (they seem in alignment as near as I can tell with a straightedge). Belt tension is problematic for me - I have a gauge but the spec seems way too tight and I can never seem to get the belt tension anywhere near that tightness anyway. The belts fail by delaminating. To me, it seems like the belt tension is to too tight, but I'm just guessing. The drive belt failure in under a year might or might not be related, but I'm mentioning it for completeness.

Re: Starter belt breaks after a few months
Where are you getting these belts?
The cheapie belts on some China-parts cart websites will do exactly that. “OEM replacement” does not mean it’s OEM. |
