Default yamaha g1 runs weird

Gas g1 90 pounds compression-new crank seals both sides=good fuel pump-starts hard with choke. runs ok 100ft then craps out. hard start then ANOTHER 100 FT. when it quits it seems to want to start. Had carb apart seems ok needle and seat fine,Reed valve seems ok. Any thoughts?

Compression is low, but if it starts it should run. Sounds like it's running out of fuel. I'd take the fuel pump apart and clean it out, or replace it. If it's old, it's likely the culprit, they have a habit of getting clogged too. See the stickies at the top of the page.

What year is the cart? If it's an 82 then 90psi is fine. 82 was the oddball motor.

Compression is low and the '82 was different(the cylinder used a smaller sized reed plate) but the specs are the same. Make sure there is no leak between the motor and the pump. If ok, I'd replace or rebuild the fuel pump. The gas should spurt out a good 3 to 4 inches. Just because a cart starts doesn't mean it's going to run properly. As you have found out. And as the other poster has remarked, bad crankcase seals allow junk to get into the motor, which find their way into the pump.
