Fuel pump....need upgrade??
Hi guys,
As always, thanks for the help in advance. I just got the Buggy back on the road for spring. Needed a new coil/igniter. Now it fires up and runs like a champ. Running about 20mph on stock FE290 with basic mods. Problem I'm having is that after a long run at high speed (this is my around town buggy) it sputters and sometimes stalls. Last fall I chocked it up to the bag coil, and part of it was that. But now, with good spark I'm still having an issue. Last time it happened I immediately gout out, pulled the plug wire and confirmed strong spark. What I noticed is that my fuel filters were almost dry. It seems that motoring around at lower speed I get plenty of fuel, but after running WOT for awhile, the filters are empty and I'm guessing that I've just used up all the fuel in the carb bowl. I have a new 'high output' fuel pump, the black round-ish one available everywhere, but it seems it can't keep up. When I open of the throttle I don't really see any fuel pumping. Just a small trickle and not enough to fill up the filters at all. I think I need to add a small electric fuel pump to keep up with the motor at high speed. Anyone else have similar experiences or any advice?? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD |

Thanks for the link. I'll read it tonight.
I do have the little diaphragm pump but not is supposed to be higher capacity and it's pretty new. Doesn't mean it's not bad though! |

Re: Fuel pump....need upgrade??
FWIW, the plastic black fuel pumps that Club Car is using now seem to work a little better than the old metal ones. You may want to try to replace it with a new factory one first and see if that works.

I already have the more round-ish black plastic one. Either it is not working correctly or I'm just out-driving it. I have a small electric fuel pump coming from Amazon. I'll update this thread with the results when I get it installed.
