Default Fuel pump....need upgrade??

Hi guys,

As always, thanks for the help in advance.

I just got the Buggy back on the road for spring. Needed a new coil/igniter. Now it fires up and runs like a champ. Running about 20mph on stock FE290 with basic mods.

Problem I'm having is that after a long run at high speed (this is my around town buggy) it sputters and sometimes stalls. Last fall I chocked it up to the bag coil, and part of it was that. But now, with good spark I'm still having an issue.
Last time it happened I immediately gout out, pulled the plug wire and confirmed strong spark. What I noticed is that my fuel filters were almost dry. It seems that motoring around at lower speed I get plenty of fuel, but after running WOT for awhile, the filters are empty and I'm guessing that I've just used up all the fuel in the carb bowl. I have a new 'high output' fuel pump, the black round-ish one available everywhere, but it seems it can't keep up. When I open of the throttle I don't really see any fuel pumping. Just a small trickle and not enough to fill up the filters at all.

I think I need to add a small electric fuel pump to keep up with the motor at high speed. Anyone else have similar experiences or any advice??

Thanks for the link. I'll read it tonight.
I do have the little diaphragm pump but not is supposed to be higher capacity and it's pretty new. Doesn't mean it's not bad though!

FWIW, the plastic black fuel pumps that Club Car is using now seem to work a little better than the old metal ones. You may want to try to replace it with a new factory one first and see if that works.

I already have the more round-ish black plastic one. Either it is not working correctly or I'm just out-driving it. I have a small electric fuel pump coming from Amazon. I'll update this thread with the results when I get it installed.
