Default starter/generator question.

How hard is it to rebuild a 92 g9a starter/generator? Or if anybody knows of a good used let me know.

that really depends on what is wrong with it. if its just replacing the brushes, and you can do it yourself, around 25 bucks, for the brushes, if its bearings it will be more, not sure if the windings wear out or not, if so then you prob. would have to replace the whole starter.$$$$$, mine is a 97g16, and all was ok but the brushes. very easy, just take the cap off, take out the 4, and replace,, good luck

SOMETIMES THE BRUSHES MAY STICK IN PLACE
from dust build up

I just pulled my starter/gen
as it was only working very intermittently
a turn or a hammer whack would get the S/G to turn a bit
but then it when right back to not working
got it off and pulled the rubber covers off the brushes
oddly they were all ok and stuck up a bit above the holders
1/4'' or so for the short one other were up to a 1/2''
whole area was covered in brush dust
and I suspect the brush was stuck by the dust build up
a bit of blowing and wiggling and the thing ran again

will get new brushes as spares and see how long the cart works
before they are needed

i do know how much dust can build up, when i did mine, as i had it apart i used my leaf blower to blow it out, it was a cloud of black soot.i know nobody wants to but prob. every few years it would not hurt to take it off and blow it out;
