G14 Drive Belt
I have a G14 that has broken two drive belts. The first one broke right after the cart had some work done on the carburetor and charging system. They washed the engine before the service as well. The first belt broke after service and I installed a new one thinking it was just it's time to break but the new has broke too. It seem to run fine after I installed the new belt but broke shortly after and was pretty much shredded. Is this a drive clutch or secondary clutch problem?

Re: G14 Drive Belt
I would take a good look at the secondary sheaves.

Re: G14 Drive Belt
What do I need to look for specifically? The secondary is the one furthest away from the motor, correct?

Re: G14 Drive Belt
Look for worn/cracked sheaves (where the belt rides).

Re: G14 Drive Belt
There's a good chance that it's a clutch problem. Look at the sheaves on the drive and the driven clutches. Make sure there smooth and clean. Make sure they don't wobble or rattle.
Also look at the engine tensioner cable. It's located on the front of the engine attached down low near the driver side. If that's broken then the engine will shift or move a lot when torque is applied. The movement will allow the belt to become misaligned. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/attac...r-100_0228.jpg |

Re: G14 Drive Belt
I have never ever seen a belt in good condition fail "by shredding" without clutch problems (bad parts or bad alignment) causing the belt to die.

Re: G14 Drive Belt
The sheaves look good and smooth and the small cable isn't broken, loose but not broken as I can move it.
This was a new belt and is completely shredded to the point the flat part of the belt or top is separated from the drive teeth portion. The secondary clutch moves freely in and out and the secondary clutch turns freely as well. |
