Storing and Securing G22 gas Outside

Looking for some advice from those of you that store your golf cart outside, unattended. We do not have a garage at our Lake place so we will need to keep it on the driveway with a cover when we're not there. Concerned about theft as well, or at least tampering. Is there any trick way to defeat the ignition enough to at least slow down the typical $hitbag tweaker from making off with it?

Also any recommendations on a cover would be appreciated as well. Cart has a rear seat, stock top.

If I were going to leave mine set outside and couldn't watch over it I'd pull the plug and coil wire and unhook the battery as well.

You may also want too put it on blocks to save the tires if it sets for any length of time.

When we take our cart to the Gulf Coast for the summer, I cover it up and use a heavy duty cable/lock to secure it to the front of our travel trailer when we are not there. There are friends around to help keep an eye on things, as we look out for each other’s stuff. Here is the cover that we use, I got it on Amazon.

Our cart has rear seating, a front clays basket, 6” lift and 23” tires. It is a tight fit and doesn’t cover the wheels all the way to the ground, but it has held up for three years and does a reasonable job. To secure your cart I would find some welded link vinyl covered chain and run it through all four wheels, passing through the frame. Then try to find a way to secure the cart to a permanent structure. Turning off the gas and disconnecting the battery would be a good idea also. It really depends on how long you leave it sitting and if there is anyone around to help keep an eye on things when you are gone. Good Luck.

You can not stop bad people from that kind of stuff. It's a mental thing. They don't have something you have so they think they can take it There are "locks" for the accelerator/brake pedal that would probably be good in your situation. Another of my favorites is a "hidden" "kill" switch. I have a favorite spot for G16/G22's. If you'd like to know, just PM me.

I know a guy that has an enclosed trailer he hauls his toys up to a lake with, then he uses it as a garage all summer. He leaves a vehicle in front of it so you can't move it, not sure if its locked or chained. I had a place and bought one of those little metal sheds when I first got my cart, it worked fine but was a major project to assemble it had 5,000 screws in it. If you get one be sure its not that hard to put together (it was not hard to assemble parts but all the screws were terrible and naturally it did the first snow the fall weekend I put it together, finally roped a tarp up in the trees to work under lol). Anyway the shed was on sale it was not much at the time, only had to buy treated wood to make a floor for it, some cement blocks to set it on. There you could put one up because its a temp/movable building I think 100sqft, and put it in some trees out of sight.

And ya, you can't stop people from messing with stuff. The stupid stuff that grown 45 yo men do in the Ozarks is freaking bazaar, stuff stupid 15 yo kids do. At least I can thwart the joy riders! I'll get some insurance on it too.

The G22a has a petcock valve on top of gas tank from the factory. Turn it off and run it out of gas when you are shutting it down for storage. It will prevent them from driving (most thief not too smart, "derr, whats a choke?"), and will reduce "crud" buildup in the carb from evaporating fuel. Two birds, one stone! Plus, super easy, already installed & zero $!

Pull the fuses and weave a cable through the mag wheels with a lock!! A cover helps also!!

My car can be started with a Popsicle stick, (no key needed), so that's what I do!!

put it up on jack stands and pull the tires off, then tarp it.. if some one wants it they will cut your lock or chain and roll it down the road and load it on a trailer or something without wheels its gonna be pretty hard to move.. you could throw them back on and be ready to roll in a few minutes.
