Light Kit Flickering issue?
Hello, I have a Yamaha G16A. I've installed a light kit on it and have a reoccurring issue. My lights flicker at 3/4 throttle. I measured voltage from the battery and at idle I get roughly 12-13 volts and at full throttle I'm at 15-16V. I replaced the voltage regulator thinking it wasnt regulating the voltage down but a brand new one still causes the issue, I've also tried hard wiring it. nothing seems to work. I've came to the conclusion its probably the starter/generator but before putting out money to rebuild it I figured I'd ask on here. the flickering is caused by an over voltage but I'm not sure how I want to tackle the situation.

Re: Light Kit Flickering issue?
I had an old Pontiac that did the same and it ended being a bad/weak ground. I ran a addition ground to another location and the lights never acted up again.

Ground straight to the battery.

Re: Light Kit Flickering issue?
Between idle and full throttle, you should be getting 14.5 - 15.5 V
If it producing required voltage at full throttle only then your starter-generator need servicing. Bill |
