Default 03 W/FE290 runs betterw/o air filter?

03 CC with FE290
had engine dropped out
installed clutch kit: 2 springs & cog belt
new rear springs: rock solid now?? think I am going to remove middle leaf
has 2 long and 1 short flat on bottom
pulled carb: bowl and it was cruddy, cleaned & blew carb cleaner thru ever
thing I could, then installed a jet that was drilled to .035
changed oil & filter

put back togeather and it ran fine, hooked up hose to air box and it cuts out?
didnt think that the jet would be to BIG?

also loosened the governor pivot

what you guys think?

just trying to go over this thing and its headed to the lake with my sister

With bigger jet you need to take baffles out of air box, or use k&n air filter.

There are no removable baffles in 97+ air boxes!

A K&N #33-2022 would be your best bet!

what baffles? went and relooked
took pics and most restricted part looks like the duct work that goes to the front. Want to keep it simple for my sister, maybe I'll put hte stock jet back in.
what about modify the box?

Thanks Lockman1, never re-read before I posted after checking box

Don't modify the box!
I drilled a 2" hole in the bottom of mine using the stock jet... I had to replace it because it ran like crap!

The Kawi FE engines are VERY finicky when it comes to air/fuel mixture,
either put the stock jet back in, or try a K&N filter!

just tried it hooked up with-out Club Car filter
and seems to run fine,
LOCKMAN1 do you have a FE290? and what jet are you running
I thought with the governor un-hooked alittle more fuel would be a good thing

I have a 350, and if I remember correctly, my stock jet is 2 sizes larger then the 290!

Wait a minute! ...
My manual(s) tell me that the stock jet for a 290 is a #82, and the stock jet for a 350 is a #85
I don't know what their actual hole size is.

The K&N filter is basically just screen mesh with some sort of fiber attached to it,
and spraying it with K&N oil attracts and holds dust and debris until you clean it off with the K&N cleaner,
that's why it's a lifetime guarantee air filter! Use it over, and over, and over!

You'll need to balance the air and fuel mix properly... too much of one or the other will make it run poorly!
