Default My Yamaha G1 Clutch isn't working

I've had my grandparents very old Yamaha G1 for awhile. The belt isn't moving, but the battery works and golf cart turns on. I believe it's the clutch and was told to use some WD40 and a hammer to get it unstuck but have no idea what to do.
Someone pls help me.

Thumbs up Re: My Yamaha G1 Clutch isn't working

What makes you think it's the clutch? Does the sheave move in when you press on the gas?

No the sheave doesn't move in, we tried WD40 and beating it with a hammer, but the belt won't catch and move the thing

What year is the cart? You're definitely going to have to take the clutch apart to see what's going on. I would pop the cover off and see if the weights are broken or stuck. Check to make sure the snap ring that holds the sliding sheave didn't break off while you have the cover off too. If the sliding sheave is stuck to the shaft then my guess would be a seized up sheave bearing. Be careful beating the sheave with a hammer because you can break it easily and they're expensive to replace (if you can even find one anymore). I'm not a pro at this but I'm speaking from past experiences with mine and the things I've learned from the other members on this site . Hope you can figure it out

Also, take pictures if you can. Alot these guys on here are really good mechanics that know their way around a cart. Sometimes they can solve the problem just by looking at it.
