Resurrected old g2 1st run went good 1 hour later won't start
Bought 2 years ago. Sat ever since. Last owner though carb stud stripped out ended up just the plastic spacer. With that fixed cart started up with a few belchs and a little smoke ran pretty good. Drove up and down road plenty of power Rev and forward worked fine. Parked in drive 1 hour later would not start seemed like it was flooding muffler got very hot cart would pop from time to time but nothing. Checked compression this is were it gets weird I got readings all over the board 170-60-80-120-140-180 replaced plug cleaned tank pump carb seems to have good spark. Intake valve did stick once but couldn't get it to do it again seems like it's in the head sticking or bent valve don't want to do a tear down if I can help it.

The sticking valve makes me want to suggest that you remove the valve cover and check to see if the rockers are dry, (no oil). If so, you need to blow air back through the oil supply line (hose and steal tube going up the back of the motor into the back of the valve cover!!
Hot muffler may be the result of the float valve not sealing, and allowing to much fuel to pass!! Also check oil for gas saturation!! |

Will try that. Going to rebuild carb anyway. But won't even fire with starting fluid. And dry carb.

Thank you very much. That seems to be my conclusion also just hate to since it ran so good at first do you think removing the head will be the best way to get to the problem? I really appreciate the time you are taking to help me.

Re: Resurrected old g2 1st run went good 1 hour later won't start
Pull just the valve (not the head) cover off and then crank it to see if it's getting oil up there and make sure everything is moving as it should.
After cranking and trying to start pull the plug and see if it's over fueling with the plug being very wet. If it's already over fueling then it won't fire any better with starting fluid. But, if it's not getting fuel or enough fuel then it should at least try to start with the use of the starting fluid. With such a fluctuation in the compression numbers it sounds like you still have a valve sticking a bit. When you crank the engine does it even pop like it's trying to start or does it just crank over with nothing. |

Yes it does pop once in a while. Plus while I'm cranking for long periods the muffler get extremely hot like the gas is being burned in it.

Follow up. Pulled valve cover off oil tube to crank case seem clear blew the oil cap off. Valve train is wet valves seem free and smooth will try a leak down test next unless you have any other suggestions. Again thanks for the help.
