Default finger on front clutch sticking

anybody have an answer as to why the fingers on the front clutch stick open and locks the clutch up???

Not shure of the model car you have, but if it's a G16/22 probably a flat spot in one or more rollers. A worn out drive belt, wear on the sheave surfaces and a input shaft circlip failure can also cause this.

The clutch with 3 "fingers" was only used on G-16/G-22/Umax, never used on "Drive". The newest Drive uses a clutch super-similar to G-2/9, with swinging weights.

its a g 9, and in past i did have the flat spots but on this one its not flat spoted, the clutch is a rebuilt one about a year old

OK, it's a G9 with a newer (G16-G28.) clutch. Check rollers for flat spots, the "fingers" leaving usually are a symptom of the problem, not the problem themselves. Also look for deep wear patterns on the sheaves as noted in pics (this clutch was too worn for reuse).
