Default KingPin Removal

Hi all,
Attached are two photo's of the Kingpins in my 1973 Caroche/Vanguard Sport Coupe.

The bushings are definitely shot, there is a quarter inch of play in them.

I have tried to gently remove the kingpins with a hammer, and they do not seem eager to come out.

Is there something I am missing, do I need to do this in a press? Or do I need a bigger hammer?

Have you had any experience with this design before?

Thank you,
Aflyer

CTD,
Thank you, I had found that same drawing, it is very close but not exactly the same setup.

This one unfortunately is a 1973, and is different. I tried to capture in the picture that there is a bolt on the bottom of these instead of the nut on top.

I would have thought I could still knock the Kingpin out, and then deal with pressing the bushings.

I would take them to a machine shop or someone who has a press.
Those older pins may be really stuck and won't slide past the bushings.
You don't want to beat in the new bushings, they need to be pressed. IMO
Also the new bushings may need to be reamed to fit the pins. You may need pins too.
Had to do this on my DS and they are smooth with no play.
Cost me $50.
Note, take clean parts to the shop and they will smile more.

Didn't I send you a book for a 73? If I didn't, let me know and I will.

Raystar57,
Yep, I was figuring on having to have the bushings pressed out and in, and potentially reamed.

But I was hoping to get the KingPins out to access what parts I will need first.

Needing the parts and being able to get them may be two different stories.

Thank you,

David,
You sent me the 1973 parts list, and it shows the exact same front end that I have, Funky Kingpins and all.

I just don't want to pound the crap out of it without reading a service manual, or hearing from someone who has done it.

Thanks,
George
