f/r switch ,micro switches , resistor coils all are 36v and the solenoids look old .. like 36v old
believe it or not the 36v motor would of been better to keep in

and looking at your photos it appears that the last solenoid is wired wrong

Which one are you calling "last" (far right or far left noting that the one farthest left is believed to be the field shortening solenoid). What appears wrong?



Should I even bother replacing the old solenoids with 48v ones? If I do, can I use the same coils?

it looks like the small stud is wired to the field shortening solenoid small stud

in my honest opinion .... yes you can upgrade to 48v solenoids but not worth it and there are no 48v coils
the 36v coils may not last
