Default Starter/Generator Rebuild, whos done it, how hard, any guides?

so my baby has been down to long, im going to get the starter rebuilt..... but my neighbor wants to just rebuild it himself.

so im interested in what it takes to rebuild one of these things? What all can go wrong, and if anyone has any guides are pictures on of a rebuild. Part numbers? kits?

I have a 99 cc ds.

it ran perfectly the last day it ran, parked it in the garage, hopped on it a couple days later and nothing, just a click out of the relay, and a smaller click out of the starter. Ive metered the lugs on the starter and i have power running to the lugs, ive ran a jumper cable from the battery to the lugs on the starter and all i get is a faint click.. any ideas?

Super easy....Ton's of YouTubeb"how to's"

Hardest part is getting the S/G out of the cart sometimes. Take your time and follow the video instructions step by step. I've done dozens and I'd say once I have the S/G on the work bench, the rebuild is done in about 10-15 minutes tops. Most important thing to write down, take pics, etc if it's your first time is make sure you tag your wires coming off the S/G
Good Luck!

Pretty much. In all actuality, 90% of the time it's just the brushes worn out. $15 or less for kits usually. Bearings are up to you since it'll be opened up. If the S/G wasn't making any abnormal noises, bearing is probably okay, your choice. Make sure to clean up the armature too and blow out all the brush powder from the worn out brushes (like brake dust on your car). Cleaning the armature just use some fine sand paper to do that lightly.

The new factory starter generators are pricey, but they are built to last. They are a bi-rotational design and will work on any FE290, 350, or 400 engine, regardless of rotation. I've tried a few of the aftermarket starter generators in the past year on a few carts and I've had trouble with all of them. One didn't charge, the armature flew apart on one of them, and the field coils were dragging on the coils on the other. I highly recommend a factory replacement if you're serious about keeping your cart.

Here are the " sober" pictures...

What do yall think about replacing the armature? Buggies Unlimited, carries replacement armatures although the only one they have listed on the website as for counterclockwise rotation. I'll have to see if they have a clockwise version

Plus I think there a site sponsor, any opinion?
