459cc swap not reaching over 30 mph
2005 precedent (stock CW engine, so reverse is new forward)
459cc Predator governor delete, larger jet, and open cone filter, stock CC muffler (this may be my issue, looking for confirmation) Put in 6:1 gears, so I should be sitting around 9:1 in reverse (new fwd) Comet 780 drive clutch 22" tires I've heard those with 420cc engines getting up to 40 mph, I might be missing some other mods though. I can't get above 30 mph. It could be the gearing, those using 6:1 on a CCW setup, could be the difference. I have a Tach, but I don't think it's accurate at all, so hard to say what RPM I'm actually at. The 459 has a larger header than 420 and especially stock CC so, using the stock muffler may be losing too much power. Just looking for some insight. Thank you |

IMHO Running the 459 ungoverned is a BIG risk with it's cast connecting rod. I would get a good tach and not exceed 4500 rpms. Also did you add HD valve springs ?

As far as governor goes, I'm willing to take the chance. It's worth the $300 I got this engine for. More of a test than anything. |

Red Beard on youtube did a video on mods for the 459. He lists some springs from Go powersports.

Re: 459cc swap not reaching over 30 mph
The stock 290 exhaust is a bit small for a 460cc motor. I would suggest the exhaust off of a 400 to let that motor breath a bit better. Look it up for a CC pioneer or something that came with the 400. The exhaust studs on the 400 are spaced differently than the 290 studs though so if it was a direct bolt on it won't be now.
