94-95 EZGO will not move without holding the choke
Morning yall, I'm new to the forum and to Golf Carts.
I purchased a 94-95 EZGO last year. I'm disabled so I used it to get mail and walk the dogs. Over the winter I went south and left it in the garage. Someone broke in and trashed it while stealing the ignitor. I got a replacement and installed it. I was shocked at 323.98 for such a small part. When I turn the key the electrical system comes on and the belt starts to turn and keeps going, but when I press the gas pedal the cart does not move. If I reach-down and hold the choke out it will move. I do not even have to touch the gas pedal. Nothing but the electrical was damaged in the theft. Any idea where I should look for the issue. Thank you in advance for your help Bill E Bear |

Re: 94-95 EZGO will not move without holding the choke
Welcome to BGW !!!
It sounds like the thief may have been trying to hot wire it ??? Grab a wiring diagram from the stickies at the top of this section and start tracing the ignition circuit. The key should send 12v positive to the micro at the pedal box under the floor which fires the solenoid.... maybe the solenoid is jumped? OR stuck? Give it a good rap with a large screwdriver handle? As far as the choke goes sounds like you are starving for fuel or have the air cleaner off? Hope this helps get you started..... |

Welcome Bill, Sounds like you have two problems, First one being you have a completed circuit in the starting system. Key switch is working and actually energizing the solenoid so they should be fine. I would suggest looking at the start micro switch as your problem. It is activated by the throttle linkage. It is either stuck, bypassed or just out of adjustment. Locate it, unplug one wire and try the key. Your no start without choke problem is a gunked up carb from sitting and the only cure for that is to remove the carb and cleaning. |
