So it made it a lot quieter? Mine is so loud it doesn't even sound like it has an exhaust on it.

That's the reason we pulled it apart made a huge difference

I was looking to replace/repair my exhaust (fairly new to owning carts) from excess smoking and the majority of the tail pipe missing causing excessive heat directly under the seat. To my surprise the muffler on a 89' EZ GO Marathon is in excess of $700! So I was doing some digging and was thinking of opening it up and pulling the packing, cleaning it up internally and resealing/welding it back up and adding the missing portion of the tail pipe and wondered if it would be crazy loud without the packing?

I have read of others "BBQ"-ing their mufflers to burnout excess deposits, oil, etc. but have also read to others who caution this method and if there is a fiberglass packing in the exhaust heating for hours seems like it could cause ill effects with loose particles after re installing?

Any thoughts or experiences omitting the packing material? Also anyone know why this particular muffler is so expensive (EZ GO part# 2329)?

Thanks
