So anyways, I got my new rings and seals in today. Unfortunately I didn't realize how fragile the rings are. I stretched the first one out to put it on and it snapped in half. Unbelievable |

Re: G1 Engine rebuild
Mike, I'm rebuilding an 82 G1 also. It has J1700 stamped on the cylinder and I can't find a head gasket to fit. I've ordered three and they are all too big. Looks like your cylinder is from a later engine so you shouldn't have the same problem. Also the reed gaskets are too big. Good luck on yours.

I'm getting closer. Can anyone tell me the torque specification for the head bolts?

Re: G1 Engine rebuild
Initial -14 ft lbs, second-18 ft lbs and crisscross the tightening sequence.

Re: G1 Engine rebuild
All back together. Compression is the same. Still runs great, but no improvement in the compression.
I checked the crank seals when I had it apart and they looked fairly new and no leaks. Still smokes the same also. I guess it's just normal?? |
