We are, an 86 G1. Just considering relocating the controls to the same area as a G2/g9.

The issue I should have thought of is the whole body moves up on a G1. You may have to run wires back to the rear fender well and then up onto the body and back to the new key location...attach it to the body somehow and leave enough extra to open the body normally. Still should only be a matter of making a wire loom long enough, I don't think it has that many wires. You only need the pedal wires in front. But if I did it I might leave the stock wires so it could be put back stock, maybe pull the stock wires back far as you can, then splice into them and run new wire. Someone could undo it later if they wanted. If you bump the key you could always put some kind of cup under it to be a guard around the key. You will also have to be careful of the muffler there, seems like you could fashion a metal heat guard and just make sure you mount above the muffler which is where you want it anyway.

Exactly, I think a heat shield is necessary anyway. Only the key switch wiring will be re routed, no problem.
