Last pump I bought was made for a Briggs & Stratton. Like $25 from the lawnmower shop. Now granted it is being used with a 23hp Briggs but don't see why it won't work for you. Did you check the pulse hose or at least make sure it has no oil in it ?

I did check the hose and there was nothing in it. When I turn the engine over I can feel it pulsing when I put my finger over the end of it.

How about fuel level in the tank ? Does that make a difference ? I have seen where a split pickup tube caused this

I've not checked fuel tank level when it happens...I'll look there too.

So far I have:

New fuel pump
disassembled and cleaned fuel cap vent
checked all fuel and pulse lines
new fuel filters
removed and checked the pickup tube
completely cleaned the carb and reinstalled

Still happens....

Is there any chance that at high RPM the pulse coming from the crankcase is to fast to be effective at the pump? In other words, possibly the diaphragm can's respond fast enough and the pump loses function? At least in my case, it's only happening at WOT after several min. Are there other pump options? MAybe an electric pump with return line or....

It sure sounds like a fuel delivery issue.. You may want to change the pulse line with a new hose.. It may just have gotten old..

Try and rig a test tank like a 3 gal outboard tank and raise it above the carburetor and test run it see if it runs good that way.

On gravity fed motorcycles and atv's if they are experiencing this problem the float level in the carb is set too low or there is a partial blockage in the line or needle and seat. The engine is using the gas faster than it can resupply.

After noticing the fuel filter did not have much fuel in it I decided to change out the fuel filter. I also blew the pulse line out. Some oil did come out of this line. the fuel line from the pump to the carb was also very soft and rubbery so i put a new fuel line there. I tied up the pulse line high to try and prevent oil going down into it. now when I start it the fuel filter is about 1/2 to 3/4 full. I am going to test drive it tomorrow and see if it is fixed.

It is still doing it. It is almost worse now. I tied the fuel line up high with the pulse line and it started running very bad and died and would not start. let it lay along the bottom of the engine compartment and it started running okay. then after driving it for a while it started dying out again. Should the fuel pump have enough power to push the gas uphill? When I first bought the cart, there was none of these problems going on. It has just started doing this. I did adjust the govenor, I am wondering if that has something to do with it.

It could possibly have a hole in the fuel pump diaphragm
