Bent Steering Column - 93' Marathon
The other day I noticed my steeting column is bent to the left. I was wondering if any has had this happen and know any way to fix it or how to properly bend it back? I can't tell if it is bent because of the body or just the column itself? Here's a couple pictures to see what I mean.
Thanks! |

Re: Bent Steering Column - 93' Marathon
I'd say it is the mounting surface (under steering box) that is warped or bent. My 81 marathon has the same issue. Best I can figure, someone hit something going about 20mph and smashed in the front driver side of the apron. I found a load of bondo. During the impact, the front of the cart was essentially bent in a different direction, so everything on the front drivers side is about 1/2'' off, which means my steering wheel sits about 3 1/2" too far to the left. I wonder if your cart could have been rolled at some point in its life? Just my $.02.

Re: Bent Steering Column - 93' Marathon
Definitely could have been. The previous owner did have a snowmobile engine in it, so I'm sure it had its far share of being "beat on". Maybe tonight I will take off the steering box and see if I can straighten some stuff out. Is there any specific way for removing the steering?

Re: Bent Steering Column - 93' Marathon
The older EZGOs had the steering shaft on an angle toward the driver side. That is normal.

Re: Bent Steering Column - 93' Marathon
Well that's a terrible design lol. So I assume there's not a very good way to center it then?

Re: Bent Steering Column - 93' Marathon
I have a 93 marathon that had the same issue. The welds under the steering box(under the front of the cart) were broken. I re-welded it and used a couple of flat washers between the steering box and the body to get the angle I wanted. A little goes a long way.

Awesome, I will have to check those welds out tomorrow and seen if I can get that to work. Thanks!
