How Do I Get Flywheel Nut Off
I'm a sparky, never messed with a gasser. It's belongs to a friend who's a hog hunter. He told me if I could get his buggie running, I could have pork for life.
I would really like to fix this thing. Trying to remove a flywheel nut on a 98 txt with 295 engine. Gas tank's in the way, so I can't access with impact. Couldn't gas tank out, by removing mounting bolts. Frame's rusty, so I don't want to start fighting rusted bolts to get gas tank out. How can I stop the crank from turning so I can try to get it off with socket. |

I install a top dead center tool in the spark plug hole. after that rotate the engine around gently until it bumps the stop. then remove bolt.

Or take a plug out and feed some rope in the hole. Piston will come up and hit and stop. What are the symptoms?

Clutch bolts this way but... It's crucial you make sure Piston is on compression stroke (both intake and exhaust valve are closed) other wise you could potentially bend a valve |

I'm trying to replace pulsar and clean flywheel. Symptoms: He took cart to local cart dealer for what he was told was a bad pulsar coil. It sat there for 9 months while they used it as a parts cart. Stripped everything but pulsar, even the spark plugs. He didn't know they were doing this. Whenever he called they said they were waiting on parts. He asked me to check on it. When I went there, I saw it was stripped and an invoice for $800 on the steering wheel. Loaded it up and brought it home to try to fix. Found missing so far: fuel pump, carb, ignition coil, ignitor, solenoid, voltage regulator and ignition switch. |

Gotta love a dealer like that. Aren’t many dealers in your area and with that kind of service word spreads quickly. Your friend needs to have a little talk with management.

Re: How Do I Get Flywheel Nut Off
I used to help him with problem carts, but after seeing the work he was putting out and what he was charging for it, I had to step away.
We have 2 dealers here, and both, let us say have(lack of)ethics problems. If you want an Alltrax 500amp for $770.00, I've got the dealer for you. Fixed a cart for someone who had taken it to one of the dealers, dealer give him a $400 estimate to repair, but wouldn't tell him what was wrong with it. Didn't like that. He found out thru a friend I piddle with carts. Called me, sent it to me. Buggie had a bad solenoid. When I told him it was a $75 part and 15 minutes to replace, he got really pissed. He offered me a blank check, to put this guy out of business. He's verrrrry rich. It's really tempting, but it it near impossible to find buggie techs here and I've been retired for 10 years and enjoy it. But I find myself looking at locations. |

Re: How Do I Get Flywheel Nut Off
Probably need a puller for that one.
Gotta love that kind of dealer but if I remember the area you are in there aren’t a lot of options for cart repairs. I have a friend on Fripp and any time she needs work on her cart I just quiver. I have talked her through a lot of things so she doesn’t have to call someone but sometimes she gets impatient or needs parts that I have here but she needs the cart. I would go down there but would drive the 12 mpg truck pulling a trailer for 2 1/2 hours each way. That equates to about $75 in fuel plus time that I don’t have a lot of because of my own responsibilities. Last repair she had done was the brakes and that was a $350 bill. She asked me was that too high? I just told her probably but I didn’t know what they did. |
