Default A Salute to the 2 cylinder Robins

I’ve had a 2000 txt since it came from a golf course when it was 3 years old (16 years) it sits out all summer and used daily on my property (8 acres). All I have ever did to this little motor is change the oil, clean the air cleaner and put one set of plugs in it.. It has never failed to start (except when a battery was dead) and runs as good as the day I bought it.

anyone else have a story about this little motor?

Subaru built a great little motor in this one. Only remorse is there are no main bearings so rebuilding is limited. Otherwise they would be lifetime engines.

Main bearings are built into the connecting rod, seldom does the crankshaft get trashed. New rods and you're good to go.

Only thing I don't like about this motor is the way the belt side of the camshaft sits in the head. There's no bearings in there, and I still for the life of me can't figure out HOW it gets lubrication... But the first signs of oil deprivation and the cam seizes to the head and the head is pretty much trashed after that.

Otherwise you're correct, great motors. As long as you keep fresh oil in them, even severely neglected engines still run pretty good!

I do have to say, I know it's not a Robins, but I am pretty impressed with the G2 I just pulled out of a hole. It's a 1986 (33 years old, sat there in that grave for the better part of a decade). Cleaned the carb and tank, new fuel lines and fuel pump (took the cover off, it was NASTY) and it runs like a sewing machine. Probably the quietest gas golf cart i've ever had...

I agree. If used what they were designed for they last forever. Got one I am rebuilding as we speak. The governor spring was smashed out
