Motor Heat Sensor Fault
I have a 2015 RXV that goes into limp mode without any warning.
I get a motor heat sensor fault and an HPD Sequence fault. Batteries all test fine. Help! Thanks |

Re: Motor Heat Sensore Fault
Never had failure with 2015--
Most temp sensor failure i have see was wire harness failure. You can ohm out temp sensor .... Troubleshooting guide in stickies. |

Re: Motor Heat Sensore Fault
Do you think the HPD Sequence fault is from what I had to do to get it back to the cart barn? I did a lot of turning the key off and back on and Tow mode and Run mode.
When the cart was in limp mode, it acted strangely. When I put it in Tow, it did not free-wheel, so could not be pushed or towed. In Tow it actually seemed to be still slightly powered . . . not as much as in limp mode, but still trying to go. I've been using Tow mode on RXVs regularly since 2009 to get carts back and forth from a distant cart barn, so I am accustomed to how they act in Tow. I was guessing wiring, maybe a bad connection. I found the handheld diagnostic guide online, except it was TXT, not RXV. The solution was to replace the motor or controller. |

Re: Motor Heat Sensore Fault
TXT guide useless for RXV..
No free wheel could be failed motor brake. Operating cart with failed brake could result in overheat. Start by checking / replacing motor brake. I Have NEVER seen bad RXV motor... Bearings - yes .... motor - no |

Re: Motor Heat Sensore Fault
the problem is that the sensor is inside the motor windings and is not replaceable seperately. i think the ohm values are 400ohm hot, 1300ohm cold. when sensor fails, it usually shorts to 0 ohm, controller thinks motor is hotter than the sun & goes into limp mode.. if you wanted to be sneaky, you could just jam a 700ohm resistor into the temp sensor plug to fool the controller into thinking the motor temp is bueno.

Re: Motor Heat Sensore Fault
I believe our tech replaced the controller. The cart is back in service and has not failed.

Re: Motor Heat Sensore Fault
The cart is throwing code, Motor sensor fault.. Replaced the probe, had motor cleaned and new encoder installed, new controller installed, and toned all 4 wires from plug at motor to controller. Which were good. but still just get jerk and same code. Thought I would try the resistor to see if it was the sensor in the motor.

Re: Motor Heat Sensore Fault
Update: Replaced motor temps still going above 200c without even running the cart. The 2 wire going to the motor is for the Temp sensor. It is NOT in the 4 wire connector. Connector was very brittle. Connected the wires together outside the connector and it fixes it. Going to do a permanent fix on those wires tomorrow and hopefully that's it.
