Default 04 48v DS IQ heavy duty solenoid install question

I have the HD solenoid and noticed I seem to have two diodes in the package. Some others take a resistor and diode? Just trying to sift through the myriad of instructions. My solenoid didn’t seem to have full install info but, I found a semi universal photo that didn’t answer my question.

If I understand correctly, my IQ cart has two diodes instead of any resistors and that’s because of the need for some small current jump required for motor braking, yes? Stripe goes towards the battery pack.

The small diode has the positive on the light blue wire and negative and blu/wht striped wire.

Just want to be sure I’m hooking it correctly.

Thanks Folks,
H

Which HD solenoid do you have?
Let's see if I have this right because I'm installing a HD solenoid, too.
My solenoid, MZJ-400A, does not have a designated polarity associated with the posts.
The side that gets the cable from B+ becomes the + side.
The large diode goes on the large posts with the band toward to + side.
The Light Blue wire is +48v from the Key switch and goes to the + side of the small posts.
The small diode goes on the small post with the band toward the + side.
The Blue/White wire on the - small post goes to the controller where it is grounded when conditions are right to complete the circuit, activating the solenoid contacts (the "click"), connecting the battery B+ to the controller.
The small diode should be rated at least 3A and the large one 6A (6A10).
I used a 6A10 for the small and a 10A10 (10A) for the large.

Which controller do you have? A Curtis controller requires a resistor and a diode.
An Alltrax would have two diodes.

Don't know what the OP has.
I've been focused on installing an Alltrax XCT 48400 & HD solenoid trying to get it right.
My OEM controller is a Curtis and the solenoid has a resistor, but no diode.

Right. The Curtis controller requires a resistor(pre-charge resistor for the capacitors in the controller) on the large posts, and a suppression diode (coil spike suppression) on the small posts.
The Alltrax requires a diode on the large posts for regen voltage, and the suppression diode on the small posts.

The controllers function differently, thus the need to know which controller you have to make sure the proper diode/resistor arrangement is used. The solenoid doesn't care what's attached to it, but the controller and/or other parts of the cart can be damaged by not using the correct diode and/or resistor combination.

Follow Alltrax directions for install. The long diode/wire assembly should be on the large posts because it will have 5/16 ring terminals on it. Make sure the side with the Red insulation on the wire (should be the striped side of the diode) goes towards the battery positive cable.
