Question Suppose I installed the diode backwards

Just hypothetically

07 Precedent IQ
Alltrax controller
400 amp solenoid

Just suppose, hypothetically , I reversed the diode on this system. What could the damage be.

I had it connected the right way and the solenoid was clicking when the key was turned but through some troubleshooting efforts I removed it and re-installed it backwards (don't ask... ). What would be damaged. Now the solenoid no longer clicks. Would just the solenoid be damaged, and if so, is it repairable

C. you should have put this under your 1st thread but can the solenoid be repaired?? no can it be rebuilt? some can.......better off to just buy a new one.....what damage is caused by the diode being put on backwards? i beleive it can smoke the controller but other than that i,m not sure.............................................8 )

What is purpose of the diode in this application? Reverse polarity protection? If in backwards, won't it simply not work (not causing damage) because it is uni-directional? Just curious . . .

In that thread I did ask if it could be tested, but I think it's buried in a reply to ScottyB's comment so I wanted to get it some more visibility.

To test it, can't I just apply 48VDC to the small terminals (with the blue/white & blue wires)? Shouldn't that energize it? Also, as Stevegrmich stated, wouldn't reversing them just prevent the solenoid from activating as the diode isn't letting the voltage flow properly?

Maybe, as a kid, I should have taken my Heathkit a little more serious,

Go back to your other thread........

Test your MCOR per the procedures that were provided to you, before you do anything else, odds are, your solenoid is just fine..... I have installed them wrong before and no issues. We already know that your MCOR is suspect...

Test it and post back in your original thread, no need for TWO threads...
