Is there any way to Test the F&R Switch before installing?

The rotary switch can be tested for continuity per one of my many instruction sheets.

This is a sample of what you get when you shop with carts unlimited. Thanks for letting me spam your thread while I answer your questions
This is what you need, Matt.
Hope this helps.

In my opinion, there is really no point in doing a continuity test on the high current side, if you haven't installed it yet. An "eyeball" test is all that's needed, to insure the studs are lining up at the forward and reverse stops. I'm assuming this is new, rebuilt, or at least torn apart and cleaned. There ain't much that can go wrong.

You might want to check the micros though. One should make in forward, and again in reverse, and the other should only make in reverse. Both should be open in neutral.

The continuity test is helpful in determining if contact is being made. A guy brought his Ezgo cart to me yesterday. It stopped going. The F&R got hot from towing a load and the lugs sunk slightly in the housing. The result is there is no continuity per the the test above and the cart will not go. A visual test is also good. But sometimes we don't know what we are looking at. A continuity test on those micro switches would be a good idea too

Sounds Good, While I have the F&R Switch apart I'm going to pick up some new Lugs. The reason is, as you know there are 8 Lugs Total, 4 on each side when taken apart. They are supposed to touch together to get good continuity. Well my lugs are so warn out from moving the gear back and fourth they cant even touch anymore. That is why I am not getting good continuity Front to Back of the F&R Switch. So I have some work on my hands.

I stand corrected. I still think a visual would have revealed this on an uninstalled FNR.

They come Very Very Close to touching but don't no matter How Hard I tighten the Switch. So I think its time for 8 New Bolts, an F&R Cam Assembly, and a Good Cleaning.

Matt
If they won't touch then one of two problems exist ... The contacts are worn beyond contact (I have never seen this) or the housing is bad. I have seen lots of bad housings. The stud gets hot and sinks deeper into the plastic housing.... I got one in my shop Friday like that.
Cart has big tires and they were doing lots of towing at low speed. That will make heat... so will running under rated voltage.
Sounds like you need a new housing & maybe a complete switch?
