Default rear end swap

I have a 97 carryall with an earlier ccw 290 engine installed. I have found a 94 ds gas rear end. Is the 94 rear end a direct change-out? If not will it fit and what problems should [I] expect. I currently gps checked the carryall at 26.5 mph, governor and limiter disabled running 14" rims. I want to change the rear end, reinstall the governor, and find an older limiter (I understand the 97 limiter will not work on the earlier engine?)

Thanks for any help, I do not want to blow the engine

DSs and Carryalls do have the same rear-ends as far as I know, but from 1992-1996 the FE290 was a CCW rotation motor and from 1997 and up they switched to CW rotation. The stock rear-end from a 1997 Club Car would be a clockwise-oriented transmission. But if your cart has an older CCW motor in it then you either have the older transaxle swapped in to match it, or your forward and reverse controls are bass-ackwards. If you post up a pic of your rear axle we can tell you what you have.

Either way, I'm 95% sure that 1994 CCW rear end will swap out perfectly in your cart since you already have a CCW motor.

Does your rear-end look like this? This is the older CCW transmission/transaxle case, used from 1984-1996. If it is, then that '94 axle will be a direct swap.

I have the original 1997 rear end, when I am in forward with the lever I go in reverse. The engine also revs up pretty quick and that is why I am afraid I will blow it up. I am going to purchase the 1994 rear end this week end. Also as I stated the rev limiter is not wired up and I believe it was for the 1997 engine and I have been told a 97 limiter will not work on an earlier engine. Do you happen to know if that is correct?

Thanks a lot, I feel more comfortable about switching the rear ends

I'm not sure on the rev limiter compatibility. Maybe someone else here knows.

MY transaxle is a 1997 unitized and the shift arm is horizontal and the one you show and the 1994 I saw has a vertical shift arm. The rear end I was looking at is no longer available, so I am back to looking again. I am currently located in southern Ohio (cart is in Florida) if you know anyone who might have what I am looking for I would be interested. Also I would still be interested in knowing what modifications I might need to make to install the earlier transaxle.

Thanks for your help

I have a buddy that has an extra older axle from an '86 cart. I don't know if he'll sell it though. I can ask him. Where are you in southern Ohio?

little town called Aberdeen, Ohio down on the river, 45 mile west of Portsmouth and across the river from Maysville, Ky. I may have a line on a 1985 rear end any reason to stay away from that year?

Nope they're all the same. Go for the '85 rear end if its closer. Haven't heard if my buddy will part with his yet.
