Default 2pg won't run without choke

I've got an 1988 or 9 Husqvarna (YES there was one!) EZ-GO that won't stay running without giving it about a quarter choke. Have tried new carbs, fresh 2 cycle gas and oil, nothing seems to clear it up. Mufflers clear, plug is new, compression good, air filters new etc. I just tried gravity feeding the carb so it eliminated the fuel pump as a problem. Anyone experienced this before?

You have two important parts of a two cycle engine, one is the top end where compression and power come from and the other is the lower end or crankcase which feeds the top.
Both need to be playing together to run,
If there is no vacuum in the bottom to draw fuel it won't deliver to the top.
Most common problem is the crankshaft seal(s) either fail from a bad bearing or a random backfire can pop one or both out thus loosing vacuum.
unfortunately, it's usually the one behind the flywheel.

Sounds like there is an air leak somewhere that the choke is compensating for. Crank seals seem to be a common source. You could try spraying carb cleaner around areas like the gaskets and seals while it's running to try and pinpoint any leaks.

I agree, seals are next replacement. Anyone have the part number? Are right and left side identical? while I'm that far in, I'll do the bearings too. What's their numbers?
Thanx!

Wow, I've never heard of a Husqvarna in an Ezgo. I'm pretty sure a 2pg is only a Robbins/Fuji model name, Could you post some pics for us? We like pics in here, wonder if someone has replaced the original engine with this Husky? Any idea what the CC's are?

That's an early 89 that still has the 88 engine. There have been a few on here. I agree with air leak that is most likely seals, but could be gaskets, or crankcase halves leaking.

Yep think that's about the 4th one now, and the 2nd one lately.... Glad I asked for pics as I fell for the Husky in an Ezgo thing

I second all the remedies above, *walking away with my tail between my legs*

I'm lookin now for seals and bearings, just can't afford the over priced ones I've found. Some folks are adding a BIG markup on a commodity part. And I've seen open and sealed bearings being sold for the 2pg. What was the factory version? does the crank seal serve as the bearing retainer, or are there snap rings holding it in place?
