2003 EZ GO ST350 Backfiring
It's backfiring!! Help! Since I bypassed the governor it backfires when I stop (when motor is not running). I adjusted the valves to .004, changed the sprk plugs and still, BANG! Can anyone help?

Check to make sure that your carb butterfly is completely closing. There is a screw on the top side, you could screw it out to adjust.
Make sure you dont remove the AIR SCREW! It is the small screw close to the butterfly. You may also have the linkage too tight. All else fails, put the govenor back |

Re: 2003 EZ GO ST350 Backfiring
Mike,
The only butterfly I see is the choke... It's wide open unless I pull the choke???? Am I missing something? Do I need to remove the carb to see another "butterfly" |

No - It's inside the carb. You don't need to see it - the screw is on the drivers side of the carb (I think) just look at where the linkage moves the butterfly arm. There is an adjustment screw there on the outside of the carb

Re: 2003 EZ GO ST350 Backfiring
Hello all,
When finetuning the butterfly isn't working, try a bigger ......(can't find the word) in the carb to let more gas through. When you drive more on high revs (The limiter is out) it runs a little to lean. So unburned gasses can get in the exhaust and explode there caused by glowing carbon. This because also the exhaust gets hotter. The carb on my raceengine is about the same, onley much bigger. When it runs to lean and i'm closing the throttle it dus the same. O, the last possibillity is a to slowley closing butterfly coused by dirt. Clean it and oil / grease all the gascables and bearings, also at the butterfly. Benno |

Re: 2003 EZ GO ST350 Backfiring
Thank you all for such detailed info.
I checked and cleaned the linkage/butterfly etc. The throttle closes all the way and quickly and I'm still getting backfires. I'm thinking maybe the timing needs to be adjusted... |
