Ezgo controler smoking in reverse
Installed new foward reverse controler and forward works great, put in reverse and nothing but the forward and reverse switch starts to emit smoke. Any ideas and what may be causing it? I have everything hooked up correctly according to the diagrams

Re: Ezgo controler smoking in reverse
Smoke equals bad connection... Faulty new f&r, or faulty install.

Re: Ezgo controler smoking in reverse
Ok I'll go thru and re clean all the connections to make sure they are all good. Could the motor be bad and cause it to do the same or would it not work at all if the motor was bad ?

Re: Ezgo controler smoking in reverse
I'm assuming you have a series, and it's the FNR (F/R, F&R) that's smoking, not the controller. If so, the controller, motor, and FNR don't know or care if it's in forward or reverse, as long as it's wired up correctly. Check if the FNR goes all the way to the physical stops on the FNR switch in F and R.
I don't see how anything dirty would make anything smoke ONLY in one direction. AGAIN, I'm assuming series. |

89 marathon
36v electric resistor style Got cart with no batteries, installed new batteries and wired them up according to the diagram I found on here. Put it in foward and worked no problem, switch to reverse and smoke starts to emits from the f-n-r switch area. |

Re: Ezgo controler smoking in reverse
OP (original poster), did you confirm FNR goes from mechanical stop to stop?
OK. Asking other folks. Resister carts have throttle "wipers". As far as I know, the wipers work the same in F as R. Is the FNR the same? Does it have a 1/2 speed reverse? Why would it smoke in one direction, unless there is some kinda 1/2 speed reverse? |

Re: Ezgo controler smoking in reverse
Are you sure the resisters aren't what's smoking?

Re: Ezgo controler smoking in reverse
Yes I confirmed the f-n-r goes to both stops. And yes I'm positive the resistors are not smoking because the smoke comes from bottom part or shifter area. About to take it to a local golf cart shop and see what they find wrong with it.
