Need help with new solenoid
I just bought a new 48 volt solenoid for my 84 Marathon.
The 36 volt solenoid was working fine, according to the mechanic at the golf cart store. But I figured it would be much better to have a 48 volt solenoid for my 48 volt system. Here's my problem: I don't know how the solenoid should be wired. I labeled all my wires and the old solenoid, and I made a schematic of the old setup. But the new solenoid posts are on the bottom, not on the side, like my old one. As you know it has 2 large posts and 2 small posts. I know which wires go on the large posts and which go on the small posts but I don't know which specific post gets which wire. For example, let's say I have on my old solenoid posts 1,2,3 and 4. My wires are labeled 1,2,3 and 4. The 1 and 4 wires go on the large posts, but which post is the 1 and which is the 4 on the new solenoid??? |

Re: Need help with new solenoid
I'm gonna tell you a secret but, you can't tell anybody It don't matter... That's it .... as long as the big wires go on the big posts and the small wires go on the small terminals it works Of course on the small terminals you realize that one post will be designated negative polarity only and the other positive polarity only !

Re: Need help with new solenoid
The one on the left is the 36 volt. I numbered the top 1 thru 4 and the wires I removed are likewise numbered. Label says it's a 5 coil 36 volt DC cont. solenoid.
The one on the right is the new one. I can't figure out where to begin with it. The label states it's a type 586 120111 coil 48 volt dc cont. That green wire on the 36 volt was not connected to anything else. It has a female spade connector on the loose end. The third post on the 36 volt has a male spade connector as part of the setup. I suspect that's for the ignition wire to plug into. |

Sorry, Mark. I was uploading the pictures and didn't notice your post. Yes, it's a 586 {greek to me}.
And, sorry, Mark. He is not a he. I am an ole grandma who likes to do manual labor - automotive, construction, now golf cart. LOL Pat |
