88 Marathon EZ GO GX444 Lag in forward gear
Hey all, have lag going forward, but eventually goes after pedal is mashed for 10-15 seconds, goes like hell in reverse ok. May have to mess with the carb a little, but any other ideas?

Re: 88 Marathon EZ GO GX444 Lag in forward gear
A lag trying to turn over, or an actual engine running lag?
Does it make a high pitched whine when trying to start? Like this EEEEEEEEEEEE If it's a starting lag before it wants to turn over, I would clean all of the big wire connections, and grounds. |

Quote:
Actual engine running lag, after the choke is pushed in, the RPMS raise and acts like it wants to go, but once the RPMS raise up enough to engage the clutch, it bogs the engine down and doesn't go. The engine stays running, but not enough to move it. It goes very well in reverse. If you raise the rear tires off the ground, it will go fine, but once you put load on the tires, bog bog bog. It has a new carburetor on it, just recently. Fuel pump seems to be working ok, as well as the oil injection. |

Re: 88 Marathon EZ GO GX444 Lag in forward gear
Still having issues if anyone has any ideas. I a little over 90 psi of compression in both forward and backward. It doesn't help if I spray ether in the carb, so I'm assume it isn't fuel, I'm sorta leaning towards spark, but it seems to do better in reverse. Can it be a clutch issue?

Was the engine recently rebuilt?

No, it hasn't been. Noticed light leaking from crankshaft deal, as I saw on a thread about an 89 Marathon

90 pounds is pretty low for compression. You need to be around 120-125. That may be your problem. A lot of times the better running in one direction happens with bad crank seals. That's where I would start.

Ok, at least that is something to look at. Is there a good place to get these crank seals?

Any of our site sponsors is best. Parts like that, I usually order from everything carts, they always have 10% off.

Re: 88 Marathon EZ GO GX444 Lag in forward gear
The compression is low and if you are going to go ahead and rebuild it the seal issue will be settled at that point. In other words, just doing seals will buy you some time but, a rebuild sounds in order.
