Re: Decision made. Going ahead with restoration
It's been a couple of days since I posted any updates. The construction is almost complete. I just have to build a tailgate and a couple of hip restraints. Pretty soon I'll get started on the upholstery and canvas - the fun stuff.

Re: Decision made. Going ahead with restoration
When using my phone or iPad, I can only upload one photo per post. And it always loads upside down. I have to rotate the photo and save it, reload it, and then do the same thing again to get it right side up.
Do any of you use the app for this forum? I clicked the link to the app but got a message from the App Store that this app isn't available in this country. |

If this is to be a work horse, I would make the top of the dash even with the top of the seats. Maybe a small sill on the dash top. (Like 3-4") that way when you haul something long (Think 2x4 or PVC), you got a place to put it.

Re: Decision made. Going ahead with restoration
My pictures come out sideways when I upload them from my phone too. Also, one per post. It gets aggravating.

Re: Decision made. Going ahead with restoration
Had to break from my project for a few days. Payin' customers and what-not. Decided that today I would work on it some more. Thought I'd figure out the noise from the rear end. Pulled the diff cover and found this! I was sure I'd found the source of my noise. Alas, when I hit the throttle, even with the cover off, the whine is still there.
The left axle appears new so I figured I'd pull the right one and check the bearing. Smooth as silk. Still lookin. I may just replace both axle bearings for the heck of it. |

Decided it was time to start the cosmetics. I wrapped the kick panel in black vinyl. Carpeted one of the floor panels. Installed a switch panel for later accessories and a tether kill switch in place of the ignition key switch.

Re: Decision made. Going ahead with restoration
Finally got back to my project yesterday. Glad my wife is out of town because I worked till 4 AM.
I ran to the city on Monday, looking for vinyl in the colors that match my company logo. Sadly, there aren't many shades of green and yellow in marine vinyl. These colors are a little more flamboyant than the ones on my business card so this thing is sure to get attention. Here I'm sewing the first piece for the box side cover. After the box sides were covered, I started working on the front end. I needed a dashboard with some storage area and cup holders. The only piece of body metal that I reused from the original cart was the shroud around the steering gear. It was rusty all around it, but the metal box was still usable. A little outdoor carpet dressed it up nicely. Now, the entire front end is basically one piece. I glued and screwed it all together so that, by removing six bolts, the entire thing slide up and off the cart. I decided that the flat front end wasn't flattering, so I added a little depth to it. I spent a little time with a jig saw and a sander and came up with this design. |
