newbie needing speed in 08 yamaha
as recommended in the other speed thread. I'm starting my own.
yrs ago I worked at a camping center where we alled had to own our own carts. I had a gas club car and found some post online for some simple speed tips. We now have a 08 lifted electric Yamaha to use down at the beach .Ive never messed with an electric cart. Ive read a lil bit on these and seems mainly have to change motors get what I need. would like to get the cart up to 25 - 30 mph that way not holding up traffic while on the water front rd. any tips or tricks is appreciated. I have been on Plum Quick Motors site and have been meaning to call them. I have really been thinking of selling the electric an going back to gas. I had the club car doing 28 mph, but sounded like it was screaming for mercy |

Re: newbie needing speed in 08 yamaha
Your yamaha would do around 28 with your bigger tire size and a Alltrax controller with the stock motor (with good cables to go with the controller, stock solenoid is quite robust, F&R needs no upgrade on Sepex carts like yours). Forget about high speed with bigger tires and the stock controller. The stock controller is too "lightweight" to support your desired speed And bigger tires at the same time, no matter what motor you put in it. I suggest a controller around 400 amps for stock motor, bigger for aftermarket motor. Buying a 500a controller would be a good idea if you might do a bigger motor later, as it can be set to 400a for use with stock motor until later....
Stock sepex yamaha motors dont live long lives on bigger than 400a, they run great, but die sooner. The aftermarket controller unlocks all the "locked at 19mph from yamaha" speed possible with stock motor, and bigger amp controller gives better torque with stock motor to keep speeds up on inclines & loose terrain like some light sand. Stock motor & stuff wont give good results on deep sand like on beach. |

Re: newbie needing speed in 08 yamaha
so basically shop around for the controller you recommended is my best bet? I was thinking motor and controller. but as long as it does the 25mph zone I think it should be fine. I don't really care to go too fast on this. I'm not in the sand much. only legal where we are in the off season as far as I know.
