Default G16 sputters and won't go.

I have a G16 that when I give it gas it very slowly sputters and won't go. If I spray a small squirt of quick start in the carb it will go for a quick second then back to sputters. It almost sounds as its being choked out and not getting enough air. It's been sitting for the past year. I drained gas tank and replaced with fresh gas, has new fuel filter and air filter from last year and cleaned fuel pump. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a carb cleaning is in order. The main jet is is probably plugged/varnished closed.

Is a carb cleaning something that I could YouTube and do myself, or is it best done by a professional?

The Mikuni carb is so basic. Take the air box off, Unhook the accelerator cable and choke cable and fuel line off. On a clean rag, remove the 10MM float bowl bolt. Remove the "main" jet. Be very careful removing the float pin, it has a "crimp" on one end and you do not want to break the flange that holds the float/pin in place! I suggest "prying" off the limiter plastic limiter cap off the air mixture screw and also remove the pilot jet. Now clean all the orifices with carb cleaner and blow out with compressed air. Reassemble and take note that the main jest is not plugged up. Air mixture screw should be turned in till "lightly setted" then 1 1/2 to 2 turns back out. Reinstall carb and accel cable/choke cable/fuel line and air box. Should run good then. Good luck

Remove air cleaner, that's a test to see if more air helps
