Frustrated and venting in NC
NC inspections laws for golf carts are outrageous, under-regulated and extremely unfair. They must be inspected by a "license manufacturer" but how do you find one of those in your area and when you do find the less than handful within a 200 mile radious they gouge you with a range from $1500 to $650 to just inspect, stamp and give you paperwork for DMV because they have the corner on the market. That price is basically just to varify you have D.O.T approved equipment. However a deadly machine such as a car can be inspected by a number of inspection stations within a mile of my house for $30. A person with several DWI's can get a road hazard moped registered easier than a street legal golf cart with a licensed driver with no record. I wonder how much $ the golf cart industry is giving to NC Government to keep this law on the books!! Anyone know a Licensed Manufacturer that's in central NC that will not gouge me?

Re: Frustrated and venting in NC
I think the insane price can be blamed on one group of lovely individuals, Lawyers.! I bet the license manufacturer can somehow get dragged into the lawsuit if an accident occurs & another lawyer decides to attack the "streetworthy-ness" of your cart.
