DS roof fitment question
I'm re-doing an '87 DS pretty much from the ground up. Motor, suspension, on and on. Before it's done, I'll need a roof. In the county in MI I live in, if it doesn't have a roof, you gotta' wear a helmet (????). Keep in mind in MI....there's no M/C helmet law! Go figure... Anyway, will any DS roof fit, or are there differences according to age?
Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks! Jim |

Re: DS roof fitment question
Even on your own private property? That law sounds absurd.
Yes there are two different roof styles for the DS carts. The older style runs from 1984-2000, and the newer style runs from 2000.5-up. But you can install either one on any cart. The mounting points are the same. |

Re: DS roof fitment question
So....I just need roof and front mount hoop that match in terms of year range, correct?
Thanks! Jim |

Re: DS roof fitment question
I always laugh re: helmet laws/comments. Once our local news did a story on a young girl (who was already well below the recommended age for an ATV) who got decapitated in an accident. The news folks had to insert the quip 'however, she wasn't wearing a helmet' and did an excerpt about why helmets save lives.
She got DECAPITATED! a helmet wouldn't save her period! Sure, her dead face will probably be nice but she'd still be dead. Motorcycle/ATV/Golf car accidents are barely survivable even with a helmet. get your lower half shredded by a semi? you'd still die. Eviscerated in a mishap regarding contact with a no-post and another vehicle? Helmet does nothing. Seriously. |

I can see it now:
Man: "Honey aren't the stars beautiful tonight?" Woman: "I can't hear what you are saying, but this helmet is irritating and messing up my hair. I'm going home." |

Re: DS roof fitment question
To clarify: Yes. While either the early or later roof can fit your cart, you do need the front support bracket (windshield frame/hoop...) to match the type of top you're putting on it. Stock 1984-2000 roofs take a front support with straight vertical legs whereas the later 2000.5 & up use a support that tappers inward to narrower channels in the roof. The rear supports are also a little different - again because of the narrower mounting points on the roof.

Re: DS roof fitment question
Meimk is correct. The rear seat mounts may have to be changed if you go with a newer 2000.5 and up roof. But either will work

Re: DS roof fitment question
I have a buddy that has a new-in-box set of rear struts for an 81-99 DS if you need them.
